Act now to generate positive change in our forests, watersheds, and communities.
The West is Burning is an impact campaign led by a film that raises awareness about the conditions of forests in the western U.S. The full-feature documentary examines the history of forest management and litigation that led to the current conditions which are causing catastrophic fire nearly year-round. The film explores the urgent need to act now, and the potential to generate positive change in our forests, watersheds, and communities, both rural and urban.
To spark citizen involvement, an app accompanies the campaign as a way for the public to create short films using footage from the documentary. Visitors can discover short films on the interactive story map that features the western US. They also encouraged people to host public and private screenings of the film paired with discussion. A Screening Guide was provided to help them facilitate the event, both in-person and on Zoom.
The film was noticed by the media with a positive reflection, even catching the attention of The New York Times.
